“He throws every pitch with purpose.”
Toronto Blue Jays coach John Schneider praised starter Ryu Hyun-jin
Schneider looked back on the day’s game in an interview after winning the home game against the Chicago Cubs 11-4 held at the Rogers Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
In particular, he praised starter Ryu Hyun-jin, who recorded 2 hits, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts and 2 runs in 5 innings (self-accusation), saying, “It’s really amazing.”
Schneider said, “I haven’t been hit hard since I came back. Today too, I limited my strong hitting balls. In three appearances since his return, he is showing the image he showed before he was injured,” he said, commenting that Ryu Hyun-jin has returned to his perfect form.
“It’s just amazing to show that kind of figure at that age,” he praised the veteran’s good fighting in his mid-thirties.
“It’s never easy, but it’s very easy,” he said. “I’m throwing a really good ball.” “A few curveballs and changeups were wrong, but they came at the right time,” he said, adding a favorable review of Ryu Hyun-jin.
Regarding the fact that he is pitching well even though the average fastball speed does not exceed 90 miles per hour, he said, “He is a player who knows how to pitch. I throw all the balls with a purpose,” he said.
“I think I shot 91 miles a few times today. It would be really nice if the ball came back while warming up, but he knows which ball will come out and how it will come out. “He’s a pitcher who really knows how to throw,” he praised Ryu Hyun-jin’s talent once again.
The next schedule is still undecided. Toronto will have a break before and after two home games against the Philadelphia Phillies next week. Schneider said, “The two consecutive games against the Phillies will go to Kikuchi and Gausman. We’ll start there.”
On the other hand, Toronto easily won the game as the batters exploded. Schneider said, “I saw opposing starter James Tyan several times when he was in New York,” adding that starting pitcher James Tyan is a familiar pitcher to batters. “The three-run homer was great. I took a good approach and persevered with patience. “A decisive hit came when I needed it,” he praised the batters’ efforts.
As for Dalton Basho, who had five RBIs, he said, “I think I can still get better. It’s going in the right direction. Following today’s RBI, he blocked a double in the eighth inning, contributing to additional runs. He is also giving strength to defense. A professional player.”
When asked about the secret to reviving another line, he said, “I think the first priority is to pick out the boundary ball. It is important to weigh the ball carefully and stare at the ball you want. As batters know, baseball is a difficult sport. Pitchers have to throw aggressively and adjust accordingly,” he said
Catcher Danny Jansen, who has had a lot of sand dunes lately, was hit by two dunes that day as well. Schneider said, “When I hit the dune for the second time, I wanted to go out and relax, so I asked, ‘What are you doing?’ I was very angry. When the sand dunes first came out, I was scared. He hoped it wasn’t a big injury,” he said of what happened when the second dune came out.
“It would have been uncomfortable to swing,” Schneider said. Still, he persevered. That is his appearance,” he said, highly appreciating Jansen’s fighting spirit, who continued to participate in the dunes.
