Choi Ji-man of the San Diego Padres was placed on the injured list.
San Diego coach Bob Melvin announced the news of Choi Ji-man’s list of injured players in an interview with local media outlets such as the ‘San Diego Union-Tribune’ ahead of a home game against the Baltimore Orioles on the 15th (Korean time).
The reason for registration is a left rib strain. This is the second injured list line this season.
Choi Ji-man, who transferred from the Pittsburgh Pirates to San Diego before the trade deadline, played 16 at-bats in 7 games after the transfer, but had no hits in 11 at-bats, 3 strikeouts and 5 walks.
There was no appearance after the Arizona expedition on the 12th, and the reason was later revealed.
Manager Melvin said, “I tried to refer to it even though my condition continued to deteriorate while swinging. He hoped to respond to treatment, but his condition continued to deteriorate.”
Previously, Choi Ji-man could not play most of the first half due to an Achilles tendon injury. Once again, he was caught in an injury. “I hope it’s not a long hiatus,” Melvin said, referring to the possibility of a comeback in the short term.
Left-handed outfielder Van Gammel was called up and replaced Choi Ji-man.
A veteran who played 679 games in 7 seasons in the major leagues, he played 77 games for the Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Triple-A teams this season, recording a batting average of 0.286, on-base percentage of 0.402, slugging percentage of 0.498, 13 homers and 44 RBIs.
Melvin said, “He is a player with big league experience. He will be able to give the outfielders a chance to rest,” he said of his utilization plan.
